President Obama is gaining support for a new arms control treaty with Russia, but there are some challenges among Republicans who want to focus on domestic issues such as immigration, gay rights, and extending the Bush-era tax cuts due to expire at the end of the month before they even consider any other issue.  Obama has enlisted the help of former Secretary of State Colin Powell to convince Republicans that the so-called New Start treaty is in the best interest of both America and Russia, but will domestic politics hinder developments of a treaty that, in White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs’ eyes, is “tremendously important” to approve?  Read more here.
