The Influence of War Posted on April 22nd, 2011 by

In class yesterday we talked about the influence that war has on our culture. Something that really stood out was how the war influenced the production and sales of toys. It amazes me how a topic that is actually very violent can create such a popular attraction for kids. This seems wrong to me in many ways. We try to raise kids to be nonviolent but then hand them a teddy bear with a AK47? Seems a little backwards in my opinion.

I also think its amazing that this really all comes down to money. As soon as there is something that is all over the media there are many companies that jump on the opportunity to sell to that audience. Since war is something that is all over the newspapers and TV, people are drawn to this topic. Companies don’t care about the upbringing of children and only care to sell their product. I firmly believe that morals should come before making a profit. There should be a more strict regulation on what is sold in the children’s aisle.
