After the MayDay Conference on Capital Punishment I was intrigued as to the argument Blecker made about wanting the punishment to fit the crime. This brought up the debate in my mind as to which is worse, life in prison or death? If we want the punishment to be as harsh as the crime, we must first decide if an eye-for-an-eye is more painful to the criminal or if life without personal contact is more harsh in the long run. The article above I think gives a good perspective from a husband of a murder victim who believes that giving her assailant, DiMeo, a “death sentence ..would have been a gift.”
