Although we are learning a lot about the theory and methods of large scale nonviolent movements I would like to take a moment to stress the importance of individual change.

We have great opportunities for nonviolent action in our personal lives.  Not only does Gustavus have wonderful organizations to become involved in but there are small changes that really can add up.  Even for the people who are so busy they cannot possibly add another meeting to their week, the internet and social networking has made it easier to support peaceful change (even if all you can do is hit the “like” button).

In addition to voicing support, when we strive to vote with every dollar each of us links up with a large group of conscious consumers.  One resource that you probably have all heard of is the Better World Shopper Guide, with lists of companies to support and others to avoid.   Check it out, http://www.betterworldshopper.com/idea.html

So as we learn about inspiring advocates of large scale nonviolent change, we should still realize that doing our small part really does matter.
