Where is the inner peace? Posted on March 25th, 2011 by

I am just finishing my last midterm and I finally find myself in a “peaceful” state…but not for long.  I stumbled upon a seemingly important definition of peace earlier this semester.  Peace is defined as an absence of mental stress or anxiety.  Even though I have just finished copious amounts of studying, tests and papers, I am still busy writing this blog, packing for spring break, and trying to figure out what I need to bring in order to be prepared for my return to Gustavus.  Maybe it is my fault for not planning well enough and allotting myself enough time but it seems that there simply isn’t enough time to complete everything, complete it well and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment afterward.  I find that inner peace seems to be a fleeting thing.  There is always something that needs attention and needs to be finished. It worries me that the lack of this peace is leading to disorders such as anxiety and depression.  In such a busy and competitive world how do we find the time to find inner peace?  Is there such a thing as inner peace anymore, where we experience this absence of mental stress?

I completely agree and feel the same anxieties. I believe there are certain things you can do to calm yourself and find inner peace. Once you realize that it is yourself that is the cause of this worked up feeling, you can begin to control it. One book that has really helped me is The Book of Secrets by Deepok Chopra.
