Hair Hierarchy Posted on May 19th, 2011 by

For women of color especially in the Black community hair extensions are a controversial issue. One would question why? Well, within the Black community there are so many different hair types and textures. Most women within the black community constantly strive to achieve perfect polished, straight or curly hair. Although, that may seem like an attainable goal to an individual outside of the Black community, it is actually a constant struggle that Black women face daily. Therefore, there is a need for extensions, weaves, whatever one may call it. Essentially, adding someone else’s hair or fake hair to yours and making it look like it belongs to you is what hair extensions are. In the hair industry Brazilian hair is the crown jewels of all hair. Most women who wears a weave in the Black community is familiar with Brazilian hair especially Brazilian virgin hair. Why? Well, its said to be unprocessed and pure like a virgin. Many women search to purchase this hair because it is tangle free, it can be colored, perm and processed like their real hair and more importantly its life expectancy is longer than other hair. Individuals in the hair market who provide Brazilian hair have tried to match the growing demand for this quality hair. However, hair providers seem to go to the extreme to provide Brazilian hair. Some providers seek out women in villages that are far away from cities to guarantee their customers virgin like and unprocessed hair. Since these women have not left their villages it is likely that their hair is unprocessed and is pure. It is interesting to learn the extremes that people will seek to get hair.
